Resistance evaluation of new sugar beet half-sib families for rhizomania disease in naturally infected field conditionύ

Rhizomaniaand rhizoctonia root and crownrotdiseasesarecommon throughouttheprovince of Khorasan Razavi.Frombreeders point of view, geneticresistancetosoilbornediseaseis consideredthe most effective way to reduce losses. Therefore, to achieve a resistant variety, it is necessary to evaluate and identify resistant parents. For this purpose, 224 half-sib families and 28 parental pollinators lines resistant to Rhizoctonia solaniwere plantedinthree replicationsin arandomized completeblock design withfive-meter-long row at the rhizomania infected farm.The resultsshowed that thelinesaresignificantly different(p%5)fortraitssuch asroot yield, sugar content, sugar yeild, the percentage of infection and leaf greening.LineS2-13had the highestroot andsugaryield following the resistant check and line S2-16hadthe lowest yield and groupdsusceptible cultivar.The results of thisstudy showed that the roots of 14.28 percent of half-sibs do not have symtomps of rhizomaniainfection.Thistraitwas significantly differentamongthehalf-sib families. The results showed that, thehalf-sibs such asHS6, HS16, HS26, HS8 and HS17 had the highest percentage of resistant plants.Despit the goodresistance, thelineshadlowerroot yield and nonunformroots.At harvest time,somehalf-sibs with good root shapewereselected for full-sibfamily production.The seedswere plantedin 2013.The plants will becrossedwithamale sterilesingle cross in 2014 andhybridseedswithdoubleresistanceto rhizomania andrhizoctonia will be producted.
