Preparing Strategic Plan for Management of Pulse Crop Diseases.

This strategic plan describing the Plan for legumes crop diseases management. Legume diseases caused by fungal, bacterial, viral and nematode agents are widespread and are the main important causal factors. Nevertheless depending upon different changes and alteration in diseases, environments and hosts cycle and situations there can be severe losses and diseases incidence in host plant in the specified region .Viral infected seeds grown can cause and spread the virus diseases from one to another place, field and to the next season too. It can cause the secondary spread of the disease by efficient insect vector to many other healthy crop in the same and neighboring fields. Legume diseases has a great impact in production level of pulses crop. At present in many developing countries including Iran, the infectivity and losses due to these diseases has been reported and estimated to be near 50%. The average annual reduction of the world legumes production due to diseases were reported to be 10%. Several diseases are known to infect legume crops and some causes severe infection and losses, it is therefore very certain that there should be a long plan and program of research to implement basic control measures and managements of the legume diseases to prevent a heavy loss to final and overall crop production. Developed countries have established several control management strategies to bring and control the diseases losses to a desirable and under an economic threshold level. On the basis of available data and estimates if a proper disease control measures takes in to implementation, the average level production of some of these pulses crop can be increased between 15 to 25 %. On the other hand if in a 5 year strategic plan the disease level and crop losses could be reduced to 15 % from the present usual reports of 15-30% ( to nearly half of the present situation), that can be achieved by integrated control managements of these disease and increasing the basic production of the crop from the present level adding extra 82000 tone in a short plan. There is no specific data on legume diseases incidence, distribution, losses and production level in different agricultural zones in Iran. This project and strategic plan is collected and written to bring to focus ,list and consider the important, constrains and needs to writ a plan of legume disease control managements. The Strategic Research Plan for Management of Plant Diseases was prepared mainly by Iranian Research Institute of Plant Protection researchers in collaboration with experts from Plant Protection Organization of Iran, - 44 - experts from Agriculture Extension and Education, Experts from Private sectors, Universities and executive experts from Ministry of Jihad de-Agriculture of Iran.
