Survey on the forecasting possibility of Leopard Moth (Zeuzera pyrina) using degree-day model in South Khorasan.

Leopard moth (Zeuzera pyrina L.) is considered as one of the most important pests in Iran. This pest attacks various hosts such as apple, pear and walnut trees. In order to determinate the degree-day model for the Leopard moth, the sum average of daily maximum and minimum temperature has been used in this research. Appearance of adult about 10, 25, 50 and 75 percent of adult population were registered using pheromone traps. Also, appearance time of the first instars larvae and pupa were recorded through regular monitoring. The results showed in Sarayan region during 2011 and 2012, First adults began to appear on 2011/5/8 and 2012/5/12, reaching the highest level on 2011/5/18 and 2012/6/3. Adult population reached 10, 25, 50 and 75 percent, on 2011/5/13, 2011/5/19, 2011/5/17, 2011/5/30 and 2012/5/19, 2012/5/25, 2012/5/30, 2012/6/6, respectively. The sum averages of daily maximum and minimum temperature for each of these stages were 339.05, 395.15, 511.12 and 682.5 degree-days respectively during 2011 and 2012.
