Local varieties like Domsia have good quality but sensitive to blast disease and lodging. Domsia variety was irradiated with gamma ray to improve of negative traits in 1992. Fourteen selected mutant rice lines with Domsia (local check) were evaluated in Randomized Complete Block Design in Rice Research Institute of Iran (Rasht) in 2004. Important characters were measured including resistance to blast, number of panicles, days to 50% flowering, plant height (cm) maturity date (day), grain yield (kg/ha), amylose content(%), gel consistency (%) and gelatinization temperature. Results showed that 2 mutant lines were better than others. These selected lines will be evaluated in advanced experiments in the next year. The yield of selected lines were between 2.8-2.9 t/ha (Like Domsia) and these yield of lines were suitable in viewpoint of plant height (114 cm) and resistance to blast disease (5). Other traits such as number of panicles, maturity date, amylose content , gelatinization temperature and gel consistency didn't have significant differences in mutant lines and local check.
