Study of agronomical characters and yield of advanced breeding rice lines in preliminary traits.

One of the main goals in rice breeding is to develop lines with proper quality and higher yield. After developing pure lines, observational testing is the first step toward release of new varieties. In an observational study, 10 pure lines selected from pedigree method along with two control cultivars, namely, Fajr and Shirudi were sown under a randomized complete block design with three replications. Studied traits included plant height, effective tiller number, date of 50% flowering, panicle length, number of florets, number of filled and hollow grains, the percentage of filled and hollow grains, and yield. Results of this study indicated that lines 9 (2769-25-3-1-1-24), 7 (2805-1-1-4-3-1), 2 (28011-1-3-2-1-1), 8 (2769-25-3-1-1-17) and 4 (28142-46-1-11) had no significant difference in terms of yield. However, they showed significant differences in the number of tillers. Since lines 8 (2769-25-3-1-1-17) had fewer tillers (10.6), plant height (137 cm), higher number of filled grains (No.208.8), higher percentage of filled seeds (90.8%), lower than percentage of empty seeds (9.2%), panicle length (38.4cm), higher yield (6/6 t/ha) and excellent quality for three traits: intermediate %Amylose, Medium Gel consistency and intermediate Gelatinization Temperature, line 8 is candidate for further studies.
