Nitrate is a ubiquitous pollutant o water resources. Over consuming o nitrate may cause serious diseases or both human being and animals. This is the reason on which WHO and USEPA have set 45 mg/l as the maximum permitted level or nitrate in drinking water. High concentration amounts o nitrate in drinking water o the Mian Jungle region o asa, located 120 km south east o Shiraz, caused inhabitants to avoid using groundwater or drinking. Main objectives o this study were i) determination main sources o nitrate in groundwater and ii) introducing easible nitrate removal method in the region. To achieve the objectives, monthly groundwater sampling rom 18 sources including; water wells and outcropped springs, carried out rom April 2010 to March 2011. Amounts o nitrate, EC, and pH o samples were determined in situ, however remaining parameters including; , SO4, Cl, Na, Ca, Mg, K, determined in the lab using standard methods. Moreover, to determine eective removal methods, dierent types o crystal resins including cationic, anionic and cationic-anionic were examined using nitrate polluted water through leaching columns. Results showed that an internal and external background o nitrate in groundwater originating rom animal husbandry activities and geologic nitrate were the main sources o that pollutant in the region. Meanwhile, removal eiciency o nitrate rom leaching water was signiicantly considerable by Perlit A-14 as an anionic resin in comparison with other resin types.
