Evaluation and comparison of new hybrid forage sorghum cultivars in respect to their yield and protein content.

Experiments carried out on several indigenous and im ported sorghum hybrids, from 1986- 1988, has led to the selection of the new imported hybrids and omission of others. Therefore, these findings brought up the necessity for the current study in 1981- 91. Two promissing cullivars, namely , F-1104 as check and Beef builder as high yielding cultivars from the previous experiment and six other new hybrids were selected fOr the Current experiment. Among cultivars, sugar- graze, super-dan and Jumbo with 228.8, 220 and 210.8 T/ha respectiVely have produced the highest forage yields. Sugar- graze, Super- dan and Beef- builder, with 42.9, 42.7 and 40.1 T/ha. dry matter respectively were the highest producers amongst the 8 cultivars. From the point of the protein content, aLL the Cultivars except (N.K 725 ), were superior to the check(F -1104) Beef- builder, Sugar- graze and Jumbo Cultivars have significantly produced more prosik acid compared to the check. Where as Super- dan with the lowest acid content performed better than all other cultivars.
