Worldwide, American foulbrood caused by Paenibacillus larvae is a very serious bacterial disease of honeybee (Apis mellifera and Apis cerana). Bee disease are complex of colonies simultaneously infested with parasitic insects and infected with bacteria and accompanied by high mortality. The aim of this study was to detect P. larvae in A. cerana and pest. By using PCR, American foulbrood (AFB) was detected in Asian bee (Apis cerana) and pest samples (A. cerana; worker and drone, Brachymeria ornatipes) from A. cerana hives. The latter findings support the putative role of pests in transmitting this disease. This is also the first report of bee viruses in pests from Korea.
