Pesticide use and their safety measures in Bangladesh

Approximately 84% of the Bangladeshi people are directly or indirectly dependent on agriculture of their livehood contributing 25% of the GDP. Farmers use toxic chemicals extensively for pest control of their reputation for speedy effectiveness. However, rising us eof chemicals has already posed seriously risk to health as well as threatening to widespread ecological damage. By ignoring or violating Government Ordinance (Ordinance No.II of 1971, updated and modified in 1984), some illegal traders and sellers are engaging themselves in selling and marketing some banned/or those items which are restricted under International agreement and also some adultered items are available in the market which make foolish to our illiterate farmers. These factors ultimately increase cost of crop production and leading pesticide poisoning alarmingly in Bangladesh. Besides, some reports revealed that most of the farmers are not aware about the minimum safety measure of pesticide. The ggod news is now a days, some Government Organization and NGO`s are trying to motivating farmers to increase their awareness about the pesticide safety measure. All these real things have been incorporated here to reflect the current situation of pesticides use and their safety measure here in Bangladesh.
