The characteristic of compost depends on its basic material. It is of concern that hazardous substances such as heavy metal from municipal solid waste (MSW) will be found in compost if used as a basic material. The objective of this research is to analyze the concentration of heavy metal in three samples of Leuwigajah landfillsite post its landslide and to find out the heavy metal concentration and harvest results of lettuces (Lactucasativa) using the waste residues as compost. The results indicate that the average of heavy metal concentrationsover waste compost, except of Pb, were higher than WHO and Indonesian standard. The lettuces were grown inpots containing 10%, 25% and 50% of sample A,B, C of waste compost. This paper only presents the result ofresearch for copper (Cu) transportation into the plant. Results of this plant tests show that on all of samplestypes, on several composts concentrations adopted, heavy metals were always found within their leaves, throughIı it did not impair their growths. On the other hand, the most widely practiced of lettuce consumptions is that they would be consumed in their fresh (uncooked) forms, and we suspect that the metals will be accumulated within human bodies after consuming these types of lettuces to the extent that it will seriously harm for health. The important results of the research indicates that the waste compost from this landfill disposal site is useful for flowering plants and hard trees but should be avoided to use it for vegetable plants which is in alimentationchain.
