The carried-out analytical review of legislation and methodological base of an economic assessment of the forests in the Russian Federation allows to conclude that this question still isn’t settled legislatively. The complexity, multifunctionality and specifics of object are the objective reasons of the current situation which needs development of special approaches to its assessment. At the present stage the solution could be finding in settlement of legislations, and also in development of the approach considering a variety of natural and other features of the forests.
