The current stage of development of human society is characterized by a number of negative trends and phenomena: the environmental issues (climate change, desertification, loss of biodiversity), the depletion of natural resources and man-made disasters, lack of fresh water, food, energy, expanding the scale of poverty. The current situation makes it necessary to find alternative ways of the development, including the recent global socio-political and scientific circles actively promoted the concept of "green" (or "eco-friendly") economy. A "green" economy is the system of economic activities related to the production, distribution and consumption of goods and services, which should lead to an increase in welfare of population, without subjecting it to the ecological risks. The factors incontestably testifying in favor of an organic future agricultural production are allocated and analyzed in the article: organic yields match conventional yields; organic outperforms conventional in years of drought organic farming systems build rather than deplete soil organic matter, making it a more sustainable system; organic farming uses 45% less energy and is more efficient; conventional systems produce 40% more greenhouse gases; organic farming systems are more profitable than conventional.
