The majority of the peat soils of the Polesye region of the Republic of Belarus have been reclaimed and intensively used in agriculture during the last 40 years. As a result, a wide range of different soil types with different content of organic matter is formed. Evaluation of microbial mass of the soils along with analyzing of CO2 emission and dehydrogenase activity allows minimizing the process of mineralization of organic matter and providing soil fertility on rather high level. The data connected with intensity of issue of CO2, size of microbial weight and its respiratory activity is presented; intensity of dehydrogenase activity of peat soils of different stages of transformation is analyzed. It is established that these indicators substantially depend on intensity of soils' drainage, extent of their transformation, the way of use, fertilizers applied and other factors. Close connections between activity of dehydrogenase and intensity of CO2 issue are outlined along with the size of microbial weight (R2=0,81 and 0,91 respectively). The last dependences can be used for the assessment of the influence of the way of agricultural use on the speed of mineralization of organic substance.
