Evaluation of alfalfa ecotypes reaction to alfalfa weevil, Hypera postica Gyllenhal, 1813 (Coleoptera: Curculionidae)

Reaction of the 30 native and promising alfalfa ecotypes to the alfalfa weevil, Hypera postica Gyllenhal, 1813 (Coleoptera: Curculionidae) were evaluated during the 2007- 2011 in the field and laboratory conditions. During the first three years, the number of larvae per stem, number of damaged leaves and percentage of damages were assessed for each ecotype and ecotypes No. 10, 11, 14, 16, 19, 20, 25 and 28 were selected for examinations in potted condition. In the fourth year of study, three mechanism of resistance (antibiosis, antixenosis and tolerance) were assessed separately using alfalfa seedlings. Summarizing the results of three experiments is concluded that ecotype with number 20(Tikmedash-Einodoleh) is promising ecotype of this study.
