Optimum harvesting stages of cantaloupe Jin Yuan

Fruits of cantaloupe cv. Jin Yuan were harvested at 31 33 35 and 37 days after anthesis to determine the optimum stage of harvest when grown during August to October 2006 at Bangsai, Ayudhaya. The highest fruit weight (2.29 kg/fruit) and total soluble solids (14.22 deg brix) were obtained in fruits harvested at 35 days after anthesis while fruit firmness (297.01 N) and skin thickness (0.34 mm) were at 31 days after anthesis. Therefore, cantaloupe 'Jin Yuan' should be harvested at 35 days after anthesis.
