Optimal potato variety is characterized with high crop yield level, early harvesting terms, good organoleptic characteristics and high economic profitability. The paper presents the results of the research on the assessment of suitability of a wide range of Belarusian potato varieties for a long term storage. The level and structure of losses of potato tuber mass during storage is analyzed. The main directions of designated use of different potato varieties are outlined. On the basis of the analysis of morphological, biological and biochemical properties of potato tubers of different varieties the main directions of their use are determined. The most storable varieties are outlined. The most essential characteristics of each variety are enumerated.
