Show more [+] Less [-]English. During the last years global aquaculture develops at a quick rate. Annual increment of aquatic production composes about 10%. The article analyzes the most important directions of global development of fish production according the countries and fish breeds. The Republic of Belarus possesses high potential abilities for the development of fresh water aquaculture. Pond fishing appears one of the most economic efficient and ecologic friendly directions of aquaculture of the republic. The paper deals with the main directions of the research of valuable fish species breeding and rearing of the Institute of Fisheries in the light of the development of the domestic and world aquaculture. Dynamics of pond fish capture in the Republic of Belarus in 1989-2015 has been analyzed. The composition of pond polyculture for the period 2009-2013 has been evaluated. Dynamics of breeding of valuable fish breeds in 2009-2013 has been measured. The most important directions of fish production increment have been suggested.
