Crucial tasks of winter rye breeding in Belarus

In a course of the reseacrh there was analyzed the stale of winter rye (Secale cereale) breeding in the Republic of Belarus. Improvement of breeding of winter rye, process of creation and inclusion in the State Register of new modern short-stemmed highly productive varieties, resistant to lodging and diseased, would boost the productivity of this culture and its stability, which in turn would create a favorable framework for enhancing the stability of the gross grain harvest in the Republic of Belarus. The model provided a promising new varieties substantial increase in yield - from 6.5-8.0 to 9.0-10.0 t/ha and above. Obtaining such yields would be achieved by increasing the density of productive stalks (550-600 productive stems per 1 square m), the mass grain spike (1.8- 2.0 g), decreased plant height (0.9-1.1 m). Increased winter hardiness, comprehensive tolerance to fungal diseases and lodging resistance would reduce the pesticide load on the environment. Along with an increase in productivity of new varieties provided improved technological quality of grain: increased protein content, resistance to sprouting of grain in the ear.
