A study was conducted in the Red River Delta Biological Reserve in Vietnam to determine the coastal households' resilience to climate change. A survey of 194 randomly selected households in the two communes of Giao Xuan and Giao Thien was done in 2012 to determine the factors relating to their resiliency. The households' capitals, namely, social, economic, human, physical, and natural, were investigated to determine how these contribute to the households' resiliency. The correlation analysis shows significant relationship between the households' social capital and planning attitude, and practice of climate change adaptation; human capital and planning attitude; physical capital and knowledge about climate change adaption; and natural capital and practice of climate change adaptation. However, the relationships among the climate change adaptation variables and resiliency variables were found to be weak. Based on the findings, recommendations are provided to improve the households' resiliency to climate change. These include increasing community and household awareness on climate change, developing a master plan to cope with the climate change at the household and community levels, and promoting sustainable livelihoods.
