Application of electron microscopy in the examination of heavy clay changes during aging

Chemical corrosion is an inevitable, undesirable destruction process that occurs during use of the building structures or ceramic materials under the influence of different factors. The presence of various crystalline forms in examined ceramic material after the exposition in real conditions is the result of physico-chemical properties of raw material composition, the parameters of the technological process involved in the production of ceramic materials and atmospheric conditions during the use of ceramic products. This diversity of the destruction causes suggests on chemical corrosion specificity of the ceramic material during usage. In this work electron microscopy was used to detect crystalline forms of calcium sulfate, calcium silicate hydrate (CSH), zeolite and feldspathoides in the tiles after the application and aging.
