Variety OM4488 was selected from the hybrird combination of Hoa Lai/Basmati (marker). OM4488 is good quality rire, short duration (90 days), hard plants, strong tillering, high yield (6-8 tons/ha), glutinous and soft grain (amylose: 20-21%), delicious meals, aroma at score 1. OM4488 suitable for many different areas, especially in alkaline of drought soils. OM4488 is resistant to BPH. The area growing OM4488 in 2012 was 28,645 ha. OM4488 suitable for Mekong delta' s locals such as: Vinh Long, Kien Giang, Hau Giang. An Giang, Can Tho, Bac Lieu and Tra Vinh.
