Methodology for the monitoring of the mangrove recovery in the mouth of the San Cristobal river | Metodología para monitoreo de la recuperación del manglar en la desembocadura del río San Cristóbal

The present work consisted of designing a methodology that allows the continues of recovery of the mangrove ecosystem, in the face of the new scenarios of climate change, with a geographic information system for monitoring and updating, from the mouth of the San Cristóbal River to the Los Colorados River, due to the deterioration of a strip of the mangrove ecosystem in the south zone of San Cristóbal municipality, Artemisa province. The area under study covered 1582.59 hectares of mangrove forest south of the municipality of San Cristóbal, which was subjected to massive mortality due to anoxia after the passage of hurricanes. The study was developed in three fundamental moments of the work: Biophysical diagnosis of the ecosystem; analysis of risk-vulnerability and adaptation with a view to the recovery of the ecosystem with integrated management; and application of the methodology from its adaptation and adecuation, to the coastal sector, seriously affected, both by natural and anthropic factors. Action plans and development strategies were defined and some advanced techniques that make up the field of Applied Geomatics were combined, obtaining different thematic layers of the mangrove forest vegetation, used in the risk analysis management process with integrated management in Coast zones.

El presente trabajo consistió en diseñar una metodología que permita el seguimiento de la recuperación del ecosistema manglar, ante los nuevos escenarios del cambio climático, con un sistema de información geográfica de monitoreo y actualización, desde la desembocadura del río San Cristóbal hasta el río Los Colorados, debido al deterioro de una franja del ecosistema de manglar en la zona sur del municipio San Cristóbal, provincia Artemisa. El área objeto de estudio abarcó 1582.59 ha de manglar al sur del municipio San Cristóbal que fue objeto de mortalidad masiva por anoxia tras el paso de huracanes. El estudio se desarrolló en tres momentos fundamentales del trabajo: Diagnóstico biofísico del ecosistema; análisis de riesgo-vulnerabilidad y adaptación con vistas a la recuperación del ecosistema con gestión integrada; y aplicación de la metodología a partir de su adaptación y adecuación, al sector costero, seriamente afectados, tanto por factores naturales como antrópicos. Se definieron planes de acción y estrategias de desarrollo y se combinaron algunas técnicas avanzadas que componen el campo de la Geomática Aplicada, obteniendo diferentes capas temáticas de la vegetación del bosque de manglar, empleadas en el proceso de manejo de análisis de riesgos con gestión integrada en zonas costeras.
