Nutrient management strategies for sweetcorn (Yellow Sweet F1)

This study evaluated the response of sweet corn to varying levels of Eco V organic Fertilizer derived from cow manure, rice hay and banana bracts and inorganic fertilizers to find out the optimum fertilizer combination that gives optimum growth and yield. The study was arranged in a Randomized Complete Block Design with three replications. The study was conducted from August 4 to October 12, 2012 at the experimental area of the College of Agriculture, Isabela State University, Echaque, Isabela [Philippines]. Treatments include three combinations of inorganic and organic fertilizers at varying levels and the sole inorganic fertilizers (120-7-7 kg NPK) as control. Increasing the levels of organic fertilizer from 50 to 75 percent combined with inorganic fertilizer resulted to taller plant heights at 30 days after planting and at harvest, longer husked, ear length and weight of ear per plant and per sampling area. However, the combination of organic and inorganic fertilizer did not tend to increase the ear diameter of sweet corn. The highest computed ear yield per hectare was obtained by the plants fertilized with 120-7-7 kg NPK/ha (11.53). The highest return on investment was also recorded by the same treatment with 2.77 pesos. The use of 60-3.5-3.5 kg NPK/ha + 500 kg/ha Eco V is a useful fertilizer management practice for sweet corn (Yellow Sweet F1). The effectiveness of the combination increase the yield and income based on ROI.
