Quality of 134 tubewell water samples collected from area of Pakpattan Canal (PC) and River Bias (RB) of district Pakpattan was assessed in Soil and Water Testing Laboratory, Pakpattan Sharif, Punjab, Pakistan during 2013. Water samples were analyzed for EC, cations, anions and then RSC and SAR were computed. Samples were classified according to the water quality fitness criteria based on EC, SAR and RSC. The results indicated that the concentrations of cations and anions were more along RB than PC. Similar trend was observed for EC, SAR and RSC. The mean values of EC (dS/m), SAR (mmol/L)1/2 and RSC (me/L) were 2.29, 7.68 and 0.82 along RB and 0.62. 1.11 and 0.17 along PC, respectively. The quality of tubewell water for irrigation was better along PC than RB. The classification of water samples on the basis of three quality parameters showed that 96 percent water samples were fit and 4 percent were marginally fit for irrigation along PC while 4 percent were fit, 10 percent were marginally fit and 86 percent were unfit for irrigation, along RB. The management of poor quality irrigation water for sustained crop production has been discussed to guide the farming community.
