Effect of dietary dry yeast on growth performance, slaughter parameters and nutrient digestibility of Japanese quails

The objective of present research was to evaluate the beneficial effect of dietary dry yeast (Saccharomyces cerevisiae) on growth performance, slaughter parameters and nutrient digestibility of Japanese quails (Caturnix caturnix japanica). Three hundred and sixty Japanese quails (Caturnix caturnix japanica) were randomly allocated into six groups (A, B, C, D, E and F) which were further divided into three replicates, having 20 quail chicks each. Six iso-nitrogenous (CP 21.5%) and iso-caloric (ME 2880 kcal/kg) diets (A, B, C, D, E and F) Were formulated containing different dry yeast (Saccharomyces cerevisiae) levels; 0, 0.1 0.2, 0.3, 0.4 and 0.5%, respectively and fed to the birds for 42 days. Highest feed intake was recorded in group fed diet supplemented with 0.3% DY, whereas, lowest value of feed intake was recorded in 0.1% DY groups. Weight gain and feed conversion ratio was linearly increased (P less than 0.05) with increasing dietary levels of dry yeast (Saccharomyces cerevisiae). Supplementation of dry yeast (Saccharomyces cerevisiae) in the diet did not show any significant effect on slaughtering parameters. Dry matter digestibility not influenced by supplementation of dry yeast. Crude protein digestibility increased with the supplementation of dietary dry yeast (Saccharomyces cerevisiae), but no effect of increasing dietary levels was observed. Cost of Production per 100 g of weight gain can be reduced by increasing the level of dry yeast in the diet of quail birds. It can be concluded that dietary inclusion of dry yeast (Saccharomyces cerevisiae) in the diet of growing Japanese quails had beneficial effects on the growth performance, nutrient digestibility and economic efficiency. However, it has no effect on slaughter parameters.
