The research concept of this paper is based on the overview of characteristics and importance of cattle breeding in the Republic of Serbia, including its most important segment – production of cow's milk. This research covers a time period from 2000 to 2013. The total potential of agricultural land, including the production capabilities of farming production, is also analyzed. The production of cow's milk in the Republic of Serbia was analyzed in the regions of Central Serbia and Vojvodina, with changes in production during the analyzed period also being taken into consideration. The pruduction of milk per milked cow and the share of cow's milk production in the complete milk production in the Republic of Serbia were also analyzed. The reasons for the current poor state of cattle breeding were identified and the possibilities for overcoming the current state with real suggestions and solutions were given. This paper provides guidelines to all who are involved in milk production and offers concrete suggestions for adequate measures whose basic goal is improving cattle breeding, which is the paper's main contribution.
