The system of high education of future graduates is trying to adapt study programs to the current needs of the labor market. Over the past few years there has been a change in the study concept and motives for studying. The aim of this paper is to investigate the graduate students’ motives for studying, preferences regarding their future job and their own judgments about the readiness for and opportunities on the labor market. The study was conducted at the Faculties of Agriculture in Zagreb and Osijek. The study included 116 graduate students. An online survey was conducted and the questionnaire contained 16 questions. The most important motives for graduate studying are “to be academically educated” and “have a higher salary” in a future job. More than half of respondents said that they would love to find their future employment in the public sector. More than two thirds of respondents would like to work in Croatia. Aware of the competition for the same jobs, the respondents feel that they have skills/knowledge desirable on the EU labor market.
