the article analyzes the current state of retail trade in food products in Ryazan region and substantiates its importance in ensuring the physical availability of food for the population. The authors identify trends in the development of retail trade in Ryazan region, as well as identify the main problems of its functioning. It is concluded that the growth of the share of retail chains in the turnover of retail trade in food products is accompanied by an increase in their retail space, which did not stop, but only intensified in the current crisis. The results of the study can be used in the development of a regional program to ensure food security.
