The purpose of the paper is to highlight the critical level of the value of the relative content of the water in the leaves, which leads to the activation of the essential increase of the proline content. It has been established that for Glycine max L. soybean plants, the free proline content in leaves increases significantly (more than 2000 ppm DW) with a decrease in the relative water content in leaves below 75% (increasing the water deficit more than 25%). The free proline content, as a biochemical indicator of stress, is sensitive to severe stress levels. In the intermediate range of the relative water content in leaves (75-85%), the changes of the free proline content in them depending on the action of the environmental factors require special investigations
