The use of quality seed is a key driver for increasingthe agricultural productivity of Myanmar’s farmers. Theinherent characteristics of varieties and the quality of theseed determine to a large extent the yield potential andthe capacity of the crop to adapt to a changing climate.In recent years, improved varieties of a large number ofcrops have been developed or tested and released inMyanmar; however, not all of them have reached farmers.Access to good quality seed at an affordable price remainsa major issue for smallholder farmers in Myanmar.
