The present status of rust of pearl millet (Pennisetum glaucum (P. americanum)), caused by Puccinia sp., in the semi-arid tropics is reviewed, with notes on the geographic distribution and economic importance of the disease, pathogen characteristics and host range, and control methods. Future research needs are outlined
