Since 1996 two mixed farms are being developed on an experimental farm of Wageningen Agricultural University, an integrated farming system of 135 ha and an ecological system of 90 ha. The aim is to create sustainable farming systems by reintegrating arable and animal production. The design of the ecological farm (65 cows on 20 ha; arable culture on 70 ha; horticulture integrated in the seven-year crop rotation) and some research topics are described
