Biodiversity conservation is firmly established on thepolitical agenda. Nested goals and targets for biodiversityhave therefore been formulated and agreed at global, regional, national and sub-national levels in order to haltand reverse its decline. In order to measure progress inrelation to the delivery of such targets, policymakers havea range of tools and indicators that allow them to monitorand evaluate the effect of their policies, instruments andassociated actions. In terms of the policy cycle, evaluationshould result in the further modification and refinement ofpolicy instruments towards improved delivery in thefuture.
