Voer dat tegen de wand van de silo is aangekoekt kan gaan schimmelen. Schimmels kunnen toxinen vormen, met mogelijk ernstige gevolgen voor de technische resultaten. Daarom is periodieke controle en schoonmaak van de silo's noodzakelijk. Een manluik inde silo is hierbij eigenlijk onmisbaar.
