Morus nigra and Morus alba extracts have antioxidant properties and therefore can be used as active substances in modern products for dermatological application. The aim of this study was to develop a new pharmaceutical-cosmetical formulations in the form of hydrogel for dermatological application and to test their safety for use on the human skin. The hydrogels were prepared by mixing the ingredients in a laboratory glass using a propeller blender at 500 rpm. Safety profile study for hydrogels for application on the skin was done using a "patch test" on the inner side of the forearms of 10 volunteers. The method of quantification of biophysical parameters of the skin (erythema index - EI and transepidermal water loss of TEWL) was used by comparison of values before and 24 hours after application. The hydrogel with Morus alba fruit extract did not cause a statistically significant increase in the EI value, while a statistically significant difference was observed for the TEWL parameter as decrease. Phytopreparation with Morus nigra extract produced a statistically significant increase in the EI parameter, and the reduction of the TEWL parameter without any significant difference. Phytopreparation with fruit extract of Morus alba was proved as safe for use on the skin, while for the hydrogel with fruit extract of Morus nigra it can be said that it is not safe for use on the skin.
