Banat represents the eastern part of Vojvodina and extends between Tisza and Danube River on the area of 888,600 ha, which makes up 43.3% of the territory of Vojvodina. With regard to the very high wind intensity in the Banat region, this area is faced with the problem of erosion, ie the detrimental effect of the wind and the taking away surface layer of the most fertile part of the soil. This is also contributed by the fact that this area is one of the most hardened in Europe, with very few forests and forest shelterbelts that play a significant role in the protection of agricultural soil from erosion. The most endangered are farmlands which are cultivated, among which the most common types are: chernozem, black meadow and humoglay. Raising forest windbreaks, contributes to the formation of more favorable microclimate, reduces the speed of the wind, and decreases removal of the surface humus-accumulative horizons of highly productive agricultural areas as a measure of soil resource protection in this area.
