today's cities, industrialization and population growth continue to grow rapidly. The increase in industrialization and population has caused many environmental problems as well as climate change due to increased carbon emissions and global warming. The green roofs support sustainable life in cities and are an ecological way to reduce the impact of environmental problems on cities.The protective effect of the green roofs on the building layers will provide significant benefits in the context of sustainable building and urban life. Green roof systems can reduce urban carbon footprint by reducing energy consumption for heating and cooling. It also supports sustainable urban life by contributing to urban water management, enhancing natural environment formation and environmental quality of life.In this study, it was aimed to evaluated that technical information and design of the green roof systems and economic, social, and environmental effects for the sustainable urban life by literature. Some examples were given from Turkey and the World. In case of the application of the green roof systems for a certain region in Turkey, for selected structures, the economic benefits were calculated.
