Fishing vessels fuel consumption and emissions evaluation
Karagüzel, M.
In this study priority aimed the suitable approach may determine to estimating emission fuels of fisheries. In this regard, the fuel consumption and catches data of 26 commercial fishing boats (19 trawlers, 4 purse seiners and 3 small purse seine) were collected and evaluated in Iskenderun Bay during January-February 2016. In the data collections was done in two ways, by public corporation and by coordination with the fisherman who in the fishing boats. The assessment was compared to the amount of catch per unit and fuel data. For emission estimates, theoretical method was used which was named top-down method. As a result, the first information reached and presented about fuel consumption and emissions with fish catch amount. The realistic results can be achieved with this method for trawl boats, but a method has concluded that the need for a more comprehensive for purse seine vessels. Because, data of fishery production cannot be realistic with face to face interview with fishing vessels captain. In this respect to data from purse seine vessels should be followed other ways.In this thesis, trawl fishing boats may considered to be the highest emission source in the fisheries. Because, there was a high unit of emission and the number of trawler was higher than others fishing boats. In the next studies, it should focus on this point for a sustainable environmental approach. Also because of low amount of catch unit for trawling and relatively less employment, has a need for an overhaul for national fisheries.
