Chemical fractionation of soil boron and its relationships with soil properties in Gaziantep province

Boron (B) is one of the micro-plant nutrients required for plants. Determination of B fractions adsorbed to soil are helped to make assessments about B dynamics in the soil and uptake by plants. In this study, soil samples were taken from 0-20 cm soil depths from 15 different areas of Gaziantep. In this study, chemical fractions of B were determined which readily soluble B (KÇ-B), specifically adsorbed B (SPA-B), oxide bound B (OK-B), organically bound B (OM-B) and residual B (RES-B), and they constituted 0.96, 1.47, 0.84, 0.84 and 95.88% of the total soil B, respectively. Moreover, the relationship between soil B fractions with some soil characteristics has also been examined. According to the results of the study, a statistically significant positive correlation was found between soil organic matter contents and KÇ-B (P <0.01) and OM-B (P <0.05).Similarly, there is a positive (P <0.01) relationship between KÇ-B and OK-B. This can be interpreted that organic matter and oxides affects positively the amount of KÇ-B in studied soils. In the region, it may be suggested to increase the organic matter content of soils for plants nutrition with boron in a balanced and sustainable manner.
