Laboratory study of compacted fine soil hydro-mechanic behaviour | Etude en laboratoire du comportement hydro-mécanique des sols fins compactés

Compacted fine soil constitutes three phasis materials whose behavior depends on the one hand on the intrinsic nature of the material and, on the other hand, on the characteristics of the compaction realized. Furthermore, when the water content is superior to the one of the Optimum Normal Proctor, compacted soil is close to the saturation ; the behavior of these quasi - saturated soil is still poorly known. Works led by the hydraulics and civil engineering division in Cemagref Bordeaux in this area are here presented. In a first part, the development of pore pressures in fillings constituted of wet clayey material is approached ; thus, are presented successively a theoretical approach ending to the proposal of a method of calculation then an experimental approach based on specific tests in the laboratory. In a second part, a new method of fine soil compaction in the laboratory is presented ; its has been developed in order to improve the compaction of representative specimens in the laboratory. The influence of the mode of compaction on the mechanical characteristics of the matenial is put in forward. This work is currently carried on in the perspective of improving investigations of the mechanical and hydraulic behavior of fine soil compactions.

Les sols fins compactés constituent des milieux triphasiques complexes dont le comportement dépend d'une part de la nature intrinsèque du matériau et, d'autre part, des caractéristiques du compactage réalisé. Par ailleurs, lorsque la teneur en eau est supérieure à celle de l'Optimum Proctor Normal, le sol compacté se situe dans le domaine des sols quasi-saturés dont le comportement est encore mal connu. Les travaux menés par la Division Ouvrages et Réseaux Hydrauliques du Cemagref de Bordeaux dans ce domaine sont ici présentés. Dans une première partie, est abordé le développement des pressions interstitielles dans les remblais constitués de matériaux argileux humides ; ainsi, sont présentées successivement une approche théorique aboutissant à la proposition d'une méthode de calcul puis une approche expérimentale basée sur des essais spécifiques en laboratoire. Dans une seconde partie, une nouvelle méthode de compactage des sols fins en laboratoire est présentée ; son développement se poursuit dans le souci d'améliorer la représentativité des échantillons compactes en laboratoire. L'influence du mode de compactage sur les caractéristiques mécaniques du matériau est mise en évidence. Ces travaux se poursuivent actuellement dans la perspective d'améliorer les méthodes d'approches du comportement hydraulique et mécanique des sols fins compactés.
