Interactions bétail-végétation dans les systèmes sylvo-pastoraux en France | Livestock-vegetation interactions in silvo-pastoral systems in France

English. The silvopastoral systems of France present a large variability of cattle-vegetation interactions on both temporal and spatial levels. These interactions depend not only on the way the structure of the wooded pastures has developed and on the type of grazing animal, but also on the breeding system and the forage supply in the undergrowth. This clearly demonstrates that silvo-pastoral management remains a complex operation that embraces various levels of organisation and management issues on different temporal scales. In order to take advantage of the interactions between vegetation and cattle a new kind of silviculture has to be put into practice, adapted to pastoral management while safeguarding the multifunctionality of the forest.

French. Les interaction bétail-végétation dans les systèmes sylvo-pastoraux français présentent une forte variabilité dans le temps et dans l'espace. Elles dépendent à la fois de la façon dont la structure du pâturage boisé a été construite, du type d'animal au pâturage, du système d'élevage et de la qualité de l'offre fourragère du sous-bois. Ceci montre bien que tout aménagement sylvo-pastoral reste une opération complexe intégrant différents niveaux d'organisation et des logiques de gestion réfléchies à des échelles de temps très différentes. La maîtrise des interactions bétail-végétation suppose alors la mise en application d'une sylviculture nouvelle, adaptant les modalités de conduite et de régénération du peuplement forestier au système de gestion pastorale, tout en garantissant une multi-fonctionnalité à l'espace forestier.
