Chemical analyses of some oilseed-cakes

Nutritional evaluation of some oilseed-cakes (groundnut-cake, cottonseed-cake, full fat soybean meals, defatted soybean-meals, raw soybean-meal. extruded com-soybean-meal, rapeseed-meal, sesame- meal and sunflower-meal) were assessed by chemical analyses. Crude protein content in the range of 44.25 to 50.54% were recorded with full fal soybean-meal (FT'S) I, groundnut-cake (GC) I. 2 defatled soybean (DS) 2, 3 and sesame-meal (SESM). Cottonseed-cakes (CSC) I and 2 gave hIghest cmde fibre of about 20%. while bighest ether extract content between 18.55 Lo 19.94% were obtained with FFS-products. Phosphorus was abundant while magnessium was the least occurring mineral among the oilseed concentrates. Calcium occurred abundantly in soybean concentrates and sesame-meal. Per cent pbytic, phytin-phosphorus and tannin (mg/100g) were higher (p<.005) in raw soybean (RS), CSC, GC, rapeseed-meal (RASM), sunflower-meal (SUFM) and SMSM. Trypsin inhihitor activity was highest cP<0.05) in RS, while esc 1 gave significantly higher free and total gossypol. SUFM, SESM, RASM and soybean-products gave the highest values for available methionine, wbile highest nitrogen solubility and available lysine occurred in FFS 1 and 2. Based on their nutrient profile, oilseed-cakes could serve as important plant protein sources in livestock production.
