The holoparasitic angiosperm broomrape (Orobanche cumana Wallr.) is one of the main limiting factorsof sunflower production, causing a significant decrease in oil yield and quality, Research and knowledge about the assessment of the broomrape populations, evaluation of sunflower germplasm and genetic control of host-parasite interactions remains crucial point for organizing effective programs to improve plant resistance. From this prospect, the present study highlights a series of particularities of the mechanisms of resistance to biotic factors, as well as of generalbiological phenomena, based on the pathosystem H. annuus L. – O. cumana Wallr., using a multidisciplinary and integrative approach, focused on the detection of different aspects related to the complex study of genes, their expression at the level of RNA and proteins, as well as the elucidation of the genetic-molecular and physiological-biochemical basis for phenotypic realization of hereditary factors.
