Cooperation at the intergovernmental and scientific levels is crucial in resolving ecological problems inhydrographical basins of transboundary rivers, as Dniester and Prut. Complex monitoring results of the various components of aquatic ecosystems (water–suspensions – bottom sediments – biota) and adjacent territories shall be used as ground in the decision-making process concerning the efficient use of water resources, reducing degradation of aquatic ecosystems, mitigation of pollution with different substances, including metals. Data from 2013-2014 on As, Se, Bi, Cd,Sr, Pb, Mn, Cu, Zn concentrations (dissolved form) demonstrated the compliance of the Dniester and Prut waters to classes I-II, and sometimes IV-V of surface water quality.
