The effect of Fruitone application on the yield and fruit quality of pineapple cv. Gandul grown on deep peat soil in Malaysia
1996
Mohammed Selamat M. | Abdul Rahim M.
The effects of various concentration of Fruitone [Sodium 2-(3 chlorophenoxy) propionate] applied at 120 days after flower induction were studied on Gandul cultivar. The main objective was to find the optimum dosage of application in order to obtain maximum yield. Results of the study indicated that the optimum dosage of Fruitone application was 1 ml per litre of water. Average of the maximum fruit weight was 1.68 kg. Fruit qualities were affected by Fruitone application. Increasing rates of Fruitone reduced total soluble solids (TSS) thus the sugar content. However, fruit acidity increased as the rate of Fruitone application was increased. Treated fruits were generally larger than the control. They also had smaller crown size. However, harvesting period was delayed due to the delay in fruit maturity.
