Seeds of Labisia pumila (Blume) Fem.-Vill. (kacip fatimah) were sown in seven different media: 1) 100% soiL, 2) 100% sand, 3) 100% peat gro, 4) mixture of sand and soil (1:1), 5) mixture of peat gro and soil (1:1), 6) mixture of peat gro and sand (1: 1), 7) mixture of peat gro, sand and soil (1:1:1). ResuLts sixteen weeks after sowing showed that there were significant differences in the mean cumulative germination percentages in the media tested. The highest germination was obtained in mixture of peat gro and sand (97%) followed by sand (91.4%), mixture of soil, sand and peat gro (85%), soil (60%), peat gro (54.3%) and mixture of soil and peat gro (22.9%). The lowest percentage was in the mixture of sand and soil (8.6%). For germination of L. pumila, media 2, 6 and 7 are recommended.
