The morphology and systematics of Vitaceace in the Malay Peninsula

Fifty three of Vitaceae (excluding Leea) are now known to occur in the Malay Peninsula, representing 74% increase compared to the previous treatment. Of these 6 are endemics, 9 represent new records and 2 are new to science (Pterisanthes stonei and Ampelocissus ascendiflora). Although some are found among the lower montane forest vegetation of Bukit Fraser, Cameron Highlands and Genting Highlands, most are found in exposed habitats of the lowland dipterocarp forests. Recently, evidences from morphology, anatomy, phytochemistry and palynology become available for data integration. This has resulted in a revised generic and specific delikitation which can contribute to understanding of the taxa in the Peninsula. 8 genera viz, Cissus, Cayratia, Ampelopsis, Parthenocissus, Ampelocissus, Tetrastigma and Pterisanthes including one new genus, Nothocissus are recognised.
