Wood property variation in planted Kelempayan (Neolamarckia cadamba (Roxb.) Bosser)
1995
Ismail Jusoh
Kelempayan (Neolamarckia cadamba (Roxb.) Bosser), a fast growing tree species, is being investigated for its physical properties in order to assess it`s quality. Specific gravity and green moisture content were evaluated. Overall means for specific gravity was 0.36 and green moisture content 174.83%. Within-tree variation analysis revealed that wood specific gravity and green moisture content was affected by height and age. Specific gravity increased with height and from pith to bark. However, green moisture content decreased in the same direction. Green moisture content was negatively correlated with specific gravity. Understanding these variation will help in solving problems associated with utilization of the wood.
