Three heaps of rubber (Hevea brasiliensis) wood saw-dust and poultry litter with initial C:N ratios of 155:1, 40:1, and 35:1 were composted. After 8 weeks the C:N ratios were reduced to 50:1, 32:1 and 17:1 respectively. Temperature, bacteriological and fungal counts were monitored. Decreases in cellulose, lignin and carbon and increases in nitrogen and ash, were observed. Preliminary results indicated that C:N ratio 40:1 is suitable for composting.
