The international network INFORMAS developed a monitoring framework called the Healthy Food Environment Policy Index (Food-EPI), to assess the extent of implementation of government policies and actions for creating healthy food environments, compared to international best practices. This study was carried out in Chile and Mexico, two Latin American countries undergoing similar demographic, epidemiologic and nutrition transitions with particular differences in obesity and diet-related non-communicable disease (NCD) burdens. The INFORMAS instruments for the Food-Epi module were translated and adapted to the context of each participating country. The study provides a methodology that can be extended to other countries.
